About Me

Randy Jones (he/him)

MA, MHC-LP, NCC

I hold a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health & Rehabilitation Counseling from Rutgers University. I am passionate about supporting and advocating for all individuals who feel unseen, unheard, or othered, with a focus on the LGBTQIA+ community. I identify as a cisgender gay man.

My past media career spanned from the creative to the corporate worlds. I spent years crafting compelling stories in real time with real people. This experience has honed my ability to understand the nuances of human emotions and the complexities of the human condition. In my journey as a mental health counselor, I draw upon my past skills to help clients explore their own stories. Everyone’s experiences are unique, and through our work together, I walk alongside clients as they explore their narratives, fostering growth and healing. Just as a great story evolves, so do our lives, and I am here to support your journey as a culturally humble National Certified Counselor (NCC).

I am a Mental Health-Limited Permit (MHC-LP) provider in New York, currently providing counseling under supervision at Wise Therapy in New York City.

Sex-Positive, Kink-Aware Therapy to Help You Live with Meaning and Power

MY APPROACH

My work is person-centered, meaning I see you with unwavering positive regard and curiosity, where I believe you are the expert of your life, and I am the observer. I am here to walk beside you on your counseling journey. I meet you where you are without judgment. I utilize the wellness model to understand holistically all aspects of your life and their impact on your mental and physical health. I am not interested in “what’s wrong with you” but sincerely intrigued to know “what’s happened in your life”. Tell me your story. I am here to listen.

I help people untangle the “why” behind their patterns—so they can choose the “what now” with clarity and courage.

My approach blends the deep empathy of Mr. Fred Rogers, with the no-shame attitudes of Dr. Ruth, the humor of Dan Savage, and the insight of Brené Brown.

I'm here to help you explore your inner world with curiosity, not judgment—especially when it comes to sexuality, relationships, and the parts of yourself you’ve been told are “too much” or “not enough”.

In our work we’ll look at how early attachments shaped the way you love, trust, and show up in the world. We’ll explore how habits, desires, and defenses may have formed to protect you—and whether they’re still serving you today. And we’ll consider your lived experience through a biopsychosocial lens, meaning we honor how identity, culture, systems, and access to power intersect with your mental health to from a “big picture” perspective.

Whether you’re navigating identity, coming out, struggling with shame, healing from trauma, or simply feeling stuck or disconnected from a deeper sense of purpose, you're not broken. You’re becoming.

I specialize in working with individuals and couples who are ready to make sense of their story, deepen their relationships (including with themselves), and embrace a life of authenticity, connection, and meaning.

My space is affirming, judgement-free, trauma-informed, sex-positive, and kink/poly/ENM-aware.

Come as you are—and let’s get curious together.

Schedule an appointment

Starting therapy can feel overwhelming. Below you’ll find answers to common questions new clients ask. If you have a question that isn’t listed, please reach out—I’m here to help.

1. How long are sessions and how often will we meet?

Sessions typically last 45 minutes. Most clients start with weekly appointments.

2. What are your fees and do you accept insurance?

An individual session is $150.00, a couple’s session is $200.00, with some spots available on a sliding scale for persons navigating financial challenges. While I do not accept insurance directly, I can provide documentation (“superbill”) to help you seek reimbursement from your provider.

3. Do you offer in-person, virtual, or hybrid sessions?

I offer in-person sessions, HIPAA-secure teletherapy, or a combination of both.

4. What should I expect during the first few sessions?

Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and discuss your concerns and reasons for seeking counseling. In the second session we will spend time compiling a detailed history of your health, past experiences, relationships, and identities. This helps me really understand your story. In the third session we set goals and explore together how to make the change you desire a reality.

5. Can you share resources explaining counseling approaches?

Yes! Check out the Resources section below for articles that explain topics such as person-centered, CBT, DBT and other approaches we may use in your counseling.

FAQs

Wild Geese - by Mary Oliver

You do not have to be good.

You do not have to walk on your knees

for a hundred miles through the desert repenting.

You only have to let the soft animal of your body

love what it loves.

Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.

Meanwhile the world goes on.

Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain

are moving across the landscapes,

over the prairies and the deep trees,

the mountains and the rivers.

Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,

are heading home again.

Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,

the world offers itself to your imagination,

calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting -

over and over announcing your place

in the family of things.
